Home Visits

Doctor's bag

For patients who are genuinely too unwell to attend surgery, or are housebound, we are happy to visit at home.

Patients are asked to attend the surgery for an appointment wherever possible, even if it means asking a relative or friend to bring you or getting a taxi. This is because home visits are very time consuming and reduce the number of appointments we are able to offer at the surgery (up to four people can be seen at the surgery in the time taken for just one visit). In addition, we do not have access to full medical records and equipment on home visits so care is generally better delivered in the surgery.

Children should always be brought to the surgery rather than seen at home.

If you think you may need a home visit, please call the surgery as early as possible, preferably before 10.30am. Our receptionist will ask for brief details of the problem and the doctor will then phone you back to discuss further.

In general, visits are done over lunchtime and requests for visits later in the day are disruptive to afternoon surgeries, causing inconvenience to other patients. Late visits are therefore reserved for medical emergencies only.
